I had tried many
different ways to lose weight. In June 2001, I went on sugar busters
and lost 50 lbs with exercise included in 6 months. Then in December
2001, I found out I was pregnant. In August 2003 I had the baby. I
then had gained all my weight back. In January 2003, my new year's
resolution was to lose weight. I weighed 330 lbs.
In March 2003,
I found out about lap-gastric banding. At first I really was not
sure about it because I didn't know if I could handle not going
to buffets ever again. That reason was enough for me to rethink
my decision.
On June 2. 2003,
my life changed. I was 309lbs at 6'2" and 36 years old. The
procedure went great. I was back to work in one week. On June 6.
2003, I weighed in at 295lbs. I had lost 14 lbs, and how wonderful
it felt. It is now January 5, 2004 and 7 months after my surgery
I weighed in at 241lbs. 68lbs are gone forever.
I saw a doctor
today who didn't recognize me at first. My size 16 shorts are almost
too big. I haven't been this weight or size in over 10 years. I
run after my son and I am not short of breath. I can bend over without
a problem and can tie my shoes. I fit into airplane seats and movie
seats. I still go out to eat but now I just bring my scale to weigh
my 4 ounces of food. My husband still can't believe how food is
not important to me.
This is the
best thing that has ever happened to me. I finally understand the
phrases I eat to live, not live to eat. So even if on June 2. 2004
I don't make my goal weight of 200 lbs, it will be ok because eventually
I know I will be there. I also know that if I hadn't had the surgery
I would still be in my size 22/24 pants.
